About Mike Russell

Mike Russell was born in Kent, to the west of the River Medway, and is a "Kentish Man".

He likes long walks and jogs around Medway, visiting Europe on the ferry and watching a good movie.

Heroes include Sir Anthony Hopkins, Steve Coogan and Pat Sharp (when he presented Fun House). The book on Mike's table at the moment is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by the late Hunter S Thompson.

When he's not on the radio Mike makes radio jingles and voicemail greetings.

Radio Presenter

Hospital radio - In 1995 Mike joined his local hospital radio station Hospital Radio Tunbridge Wells. He then moved into the broadcasting industry on a full time professional basis which qualified him to appear in their hall of fame.

Early days - Mike started out by covering the overnight show on Thanet’s TLR 107.2 (now kmfm Thanet. Before that he was heard on Maidstone restricted service license 20/20 FM which later went on to win the license for Maidstone in Kent, renamed itself to CTR 105.6 FM (now kmfm Maidstone, and he went on to become the breakfast show presenter for a year.

On air - In 2000 Mike was hired by the GWR Group to present overnights full time on Sussex & Surrey’s 102.7 Mercury FM (now Heart Sussex and Surrey). Then, in 2001, he set off for Australia and while in the country for a working holiday ended up presenting breakfast for North Queensland radio station Kool FM. He’s since been heard on UK radio stations talkSPORT (as Mike Mendoza’s producer and sidekick Mini Mike), Capital Life (GCap UK DAB), Rock Radio Manchester, BRMB Birmingham, Southern FM (now Heart Sussex), kmfm in Kent, Time 106.6 in Slough, Time 106.8 in South East London and 107.2 Wire FM in Cheshire.

kmfm - Mike currently presents breakfast on kmfm Medway, weekdays from 6am-10am, on 100.4 and 107.9 FM in Medway, Kent.

Radio Producer

Rock Radio - Most recently, in a full time radio producer job, Mike produced Manchester legend and radio star Mike Sweeney – formerly of Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio and Capital Gold.

talkSPORT - Mike has worked as a talkSPORT radio producer with Charlie Wolf, Mike Mendoza, James Whale, George Galloway, Ian Collins, Adrian Goldberg and Mike Graham.

World Record - On 21 May 2007 Mike smashed the world record for the longest on air broadcast on Time 106.6 a radio station in Berkshire. Marathon man Mike was live for a hundred and twenty six hours with no sleep - beating the previous record by one hour. He raised over seven thousand pounds for local charity Berkshire Give a Child a Chance.

Audio Production Company - Music Radio Creative. Mike is the Director of a radio production company called Music Radio Creative that makes radio jingles, DJ drops and voice-overs for people and businesses all around the world. He writes a regular jingles blog on the company website.

Voice Over - Mike is one of the voices on the website and delivers voice-overs with a netural English accent.
